Moscow court upholds house arrest of Domodedovo’s founder
MOSCOW, Mar 9 (PRIME) -- The Moscow City Court upheld on Wednesday the house arrest of Domodedovo International Airport’s founder Dmitry Kamenshchik who charged with poor passenger inspection which preconditioned a terrorist attack in the airport in 2011.
Kamenshchik was put under house arrest on February 19 in the framework of a new criminal case to punish people who could have caused the explosion in Domodedovo. An older case which followed the explosion was closed in late 2015 because of no evidence of Domodedovo executives’ guilt and uncertainty about the real beneficiaries of Domodedovo due to its complex ownership structure.
Kamenshchik earlier confirmed that he is the real beneficiary.
Kamenshchik’s lawyers and prosecutors have asked to release the businessman because the terrorist attack was not a direct consequence of Kamenshchik’s inaction. The businessman said that investigators have not contacted him since the arrest, and his seclusion is senseless. The lawyers asked to release Kamenshchik on bail amounting to 50 million rubles.
Ex-CEO of Domodedovo Vyacheslav Nekrasov, Head of the Security Service Andrei Danilov and an executive of the airport Svetlana Trishina were arrested in early February. Trishina was later released.
The investigation of the new case against Domodedovo executives and Kamenshchik was scheduled to be held until February 28. The Basmanny District Court earlier ruled that Kamenshchik remained under house arrest until April 18.
